CTOnews.com, December 23, according to Guangming Daily, long Yuqiu, an expert in civil engineering and structural mechanics, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University, died in Beijing on December 22, 2022.

Long Yuqiu was born in January 1926 in Anhua County, Hunan Province. He stayed on to teach after graduating from Tsinghua University in 1948, and successively served as assistant researcher, assistant professor, lecturer and professor in the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University. He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.

Long Yuqiu has long been engaged in the teaching and scientific research of structural mechanics, finite element method, energy principle and shell structure. In terms of finite element and variational principles, a number of pioneering achievements at home and abroad have been achieved. Remarkable results have been achieved in engineering application: the scientific research results have been incorporated into the "thin Shell Design regulations" of the Ministry of Construction, which plays a guiding role in the design and construction of shell engineering in the whole country, and the analysis method of thin shell with large hole is established, which improves the design level. He has written monographs such as "Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering", "New finite element Theory", "basis and Progress of Energy principles", "variational principles finite element Shell Analysis" and "structural Mechanics", "structural Mechanics course", "introduction to Shell structure" and other textbooks. He has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (1999), the third China Engineering Science and Technology Award (2000), the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (2013) and other national science and technology awards. He has published more than 260 papers and 31 volumes of teaching materials and monographs.
