CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua)-- Samsung has significantly lowered its target for shipments of the mid-range smartphone Galaxy A235G this year, according to TheElec. Shipments of 12.6 million units were originally planned, but now they have fallen below 4 million, a drop of 70 per cent.

Earlier this year, Samsung set a target of shipping 17.1 million Galaxy A23 4G and 12.6 million Galaxy A23 5G phones. CTOnews.com has learned that their total shipments will reach 30 million, equivalent to about 10 per cent of Samsung's annual shipments.

The Galaxy A23 4G version was launched earlier this year. The Galaxy A23 5G will be launched later this year.

A feature that is supposed to be on these phones causes serious problems with the phone's operation.

Samsung talked to different partners to solve the problem. Samsung also conducted a month-long investigation into the problem to find out what the problem was.

Although the problem has been solved, the company is planning to reduce production of the Galaxy A235G because of the trouble it causes. Samsung will also only try to ship about 5 million of the model in 2023.

The biggest change in Samsung's development of the Galaxy A23 5G is that it has changed the preferred partner in development.

Shunyu Optics was selected as the developer of the 5000-megapixel wide-angle main camera, which is equipped with OIS anti-shake function. Partron Pachon took on the same work for Galaxy A23 4G Partron.

Sources say the problems Samsung faces on the Galaxy A235G are not Shunyu Optics's fault.

The problems faced by the model led to poor performance of other parts of the phone, such as the camera, so other unspecified problems were the root cause, they said.

However, Samsung did tell Shunyu Optics during the investigation that the manufacturer should have responded earlier.
