CTOnews.com, December 22 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- STMicroelectronics (ST) has launched a 100W wireless charging receiver chip, which is the highest rated power wireless charging receiver chip in the industry and aims at the fastest wireless charging on the market. Using St's new chip STWLC99, a high-end smartphone with the largest battery capacity can be fully charged in less than 30 minutes.
St said that the unprecedented power processing capacity of the chip will change the development prospects of battery-powered devices such as industrial tools, medical monitoring, drug pumps, mobile robots and drones, extending the battery life of the equipment and shortening the charging time.
CTOnews.com learned that in addition to improving user convenience, high-power wireless charging technology also allows designers to create industrial equipment without power sockets and power cords, bringing a variety of benefits to end users. Removing the charging socket can save the circuit board space, enhance the waterproof or dustproof tightness of the equipment, and facilitate operation in a challenging environment.
Wireless charging technology can avoid the annoying problem of wire winding. Independent mobile devices such as robots and drones can be easily recharged without the need for machines or manual connections to charging wires.
The STWLC99 is packaged in a 4.859m x 4.859mm wafer-level chip package (WLCSP) and is now in mass production, starting at $2.50 (about 17 yuan).
Technical details:
STWLC99's energy-saving architecture includes a synchronous rectifier with low RDS (on) MOSFET and a low dropout regulator that transmits power received by the charger to the battery while minimizing loss and dissipative power.
The new product complies with Qi 1.2.4 and 1.3 specifications, supports Qi Extended Power Profile (EPP), and adopts STSuperCharge (STSC) fast charging protocol specially optimized by STMicroelectronics. When used in conjunction with STMicroelectronics's STWBC2-HP transmitter solution, this receiver chip can achieve up to 100W charging power.
STWLC99 stores configuration parameters with on-chip non-volatile memory and exchanges configuration data and charging control commands through the I2C interface. The chip has a full set of safety protection functions, including current detection, accurate foreign body detection, transmission mode Q-factor detection, and overcurrent, overvoltage and overheat protection.
The STWLC99 can also be used as a charging transmitter to charge other devices with a maximum power of 25W.
