Although Apple did not share details of the changes, the company said the upgrade provided "better performance and reliability" for HomeKit accessories.

Upgrading the Home architecture requires updating all devices that visit the home to the latest operating system version, so many users have not yet taken this step, but upgraded users have reported some problems. In these reports, it seems that Apple has removed the option for users to upgrade the Home application architecture.

Problems reported by users include: the HomeKit device stays in an "updated" or "configured" state, the device is completely lost, the invitation to share Home with other users failed, HomeKit security video recording does not work, and so on.

Upgrading to the new Home application architecture is a user-initiated process, and the upgrade option no longer appears in the application in the software update section of the Home settings in the Home application. As a result, users who have not yet moved to the new architecture will not be able to do so until Apple re-enables the option.
