Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua)-- due to the oversupply of LCD panels, some notebook brands are taking the opportunity to develop new sizes for users in different industries, according to an Omdia research report. Each notebook panel manufacturer has built LCD panel factories with different generation line sizes; each panel factory uses different generation line panel cutting equipment and technologies for notebook panel sizes for customers in various fields. The size direction of the mainstream laptop panel has been determined, but the size of the high-end laptop panel has yet to be developed.

In the future, notebook computer panel display panel size will show a diversified trend for different industries.

According to Omdia's tracking report on large display Panel Technology-third quarter 2022 Analysis, most computer brands have partnered with panel manufacturers to develop mainstream laptop panel sizes for new models in 2022 and 2023. More than 2022 mainstream laptop panels with different sizes of 16:10 screens have been mass produced. However, both computer brands and panel manufacturers are still looking for and developing new laptop sizes suitable for users in various industries. For example, business users prefer low-power and slightly smaller laptops, such as 13.x, 14 or 15.x inches, game experts or designers prefer 16 or 18 inches, students are more suitable for 12.x, 13.x or 14 inches, and high-performance laptops used by semiconductors or IT engineers are 15.x or 16.x inches. Through different sizes of products, computer brands and panel manufacturers can easily meet the needs of all customers for different target sizes.

Figure 1 shows the mainstream laptop display, which gradually shifts from 16:9 to 16:10. This shift will take at least three years, as PC brands first need to digest their 16:9 panel inventory. The following is the development trend of the size of high-end laptops, including the dimensions under development. Computer brands are looking for new high-end laptop sizes as panel makers increase their low-temperature polysilicon and oxide capacity, as well as new, larger-sized MacBook notebooks. As a result, Dell, Lenovo and Asustek all plan to use 14.5-inch laptop panels for medium-sized high-end laptop models. Some brands are also considering using 16.3-or 16.5-inch panels for large-size, high-end laptop models. For high-end 13.x-inch notebooks, panel manufacturers and PC brands are looking for sizes and panel cutting methods suitable for small-size high-end models. The shift in the screen ratio of high-end laptops will take longer than mainstream laptops because brands do not know whether their high-end laptop size shift will be successful.

Figure 2: the display of advanced laptops is gradually transitioning to 16:10CTOnews.com. According to the Omdia report, it is expected that mainstream notebook models will be reduced from five sizes to four sizes in the future, but the size of high-end laptops is still uncertain. For high-end notebooks, brands compete not only in size, but also in terms of laptop model ecosystem, processor and graphics card configuration, design, software use, and customer experience. At present, panel manufacturers in China and South Korea are very interested and willing to invest in future high-end laptop panel sizes with new features such as transparency, wide color gamut and HDR 1400.
