CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua) A number of cinemas in Japan have experienced technical problems when showing "Avatar: the way of Water" (Avatar: The Way of the Water). Due to the lack of support from equipment, the part of "Avatar: the way of Water" has been reduced from 48 frames to 24 frames, Bloomberg reported. After being opposed by fans, these cinemas have no choice but to refund.

Several Japanese cinemas, including United Cinemas Co., Toho Col and Tokyu Corp, have the problem, but they have declined to comment on the issue, according to Bloomberg and other media reports.

CTOnews.com learned that Avatar: the way of Water, which has just been released, uses two different frame rates of 48fps + 24fps. The double frame rate of 48fps is used in sports scenes such as underwater or flying, which makes the picture look smoother. The traditional 24fps frame rate is used in pictures such as character dialogue, which makes the picture look more cinematic.

Since not many cinemas in Japan support high frame rate (HFR) 48 frames, if you want to get a better visual experience, you must upgrade the existing projector, which is a high cost. Usually, cinemas are aware of which formats they can play and plan accordingly. But at present, there are not many films made with HFR, so mistakes are understandable.
