CTOnews.com, December 22 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- earlier this year, the British Competition and Market Authority (CMA) sought public opinion on Microsoft's ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The aim is for the regulator to collect public opinion on whether the deal could hurt the gaming industry, and CMA has now released its findings, and in more than 2100 emails received, CMA said about 75 per cent supported the deal while the remaining 25 per cent opposed it.

CTOnews.com learned that supporters of the deal believe that Microsoft has always insisted that it does not intend to monopolize games like call of Duty and has promised Sony at least 10 years. They also claim that the Activision Blizzard deal will enable Microsoft to better compete with Nintendo and Sony, which clearly dominate the console sector, and that Microsoft should be allowed to make Activision Blizzard's games exclusive because of third-party games owned by PlayStation, such as Silent Hill 2 remake and final Fantasy 16.

On the other hand, a small number of people who disagree with the deal seem to be more concerned about the health of the entire gaming industry. They claim that Microsoft is trying to dominate the gaming industry in a way similar to how it dominates the PC market, and that Activision's deal could pave the way for its acquisition of larger publishers such as EA, Ubisoft and Take-Two.

Whether most people who send e-mails really care about the health of the gaming industry is debatable, as most people argue for their favorite platform. CMA himself even had to admit that a large number of emails had to be deleted from censorship.

It's not CMA that Microsoft needs to worry about right now, because FTC in the United States has filed an antitrust lawsuit against the deal.
