Today, Meta announced that it has improved the GPU computing power of Quest 2 through today's software update. In the future, developers will be able to take advantage of the GPU frequency of the new 525MHz, which is 7% higher than the previous 490MHz.

Most importantly, developers do not have to add any additional code to their projects to take advantage of this performance boost, as Quest 2's dynamic clock system automatically increases the frequency of GPU when needed. In addition, Meta says that by setting graphics quality as a priority before starting foveation, dynamic foveation will be able to work with the new power.

I don't know how much impact this new change will have on the performance of existing and upcoming applications, but the strange thing is that in order to be able to take advantage of the extra power, users will need to start the application, then remove the Quest 2 header display, and then put it on to activate the extra power. However, the company said that with the upcoming V49 update, these strange steps will no longer be needed.

CTOnews.com learned that Meta did not disclose whether the update would reduce battery life, Quest 2 is now in the last year of its three-year life, Quest 3 will be launched later next year, and its new chipset can provide at least twice the GPU performance.
