CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua)-- after eight consecutive quarters of growth, the Indian PC market (including desktops, laptops and tablets) suffered a downturn in the third quarter of 2022, with shipments of 5.1 million units, down 4 percent from a year earlier, market research firm Canalys pointed out in its latest report.

As the category with the largest shipments, notebook shipments led to a decline in the overall market, down 21%. Shipments of desktops and tablets increased significantly, with 766000 desktops in the third quarter, up 36%, and tablet shipments of 1.5 million units, up 24% from a year earlier.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple has bucked the trend against the backdrop of a general decline. Apple shipped 459000 in the third quarter of 2022, with a market share of 9 per cent, up 61 per cent from a year earlier. Samsung remains the market leader in tablets, with shipments up 22% and a market share of 23%. Lava, a local supplier, is in second place and sees a huge attraction in the low-end Android arena, including educational deployment. Apple ranked third in meeting the backlog of demand in the second quarter, with promotions helping drive a 71% increase in shipments.
