Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Daniel Wu in South China, Brother Black fly's left hand and Mr. Aviation's clue delivery! Beijing, December 22 (Xinhua) Intel announced on Wednesday that it will split its graphics chip division in order to better compete with rivals Nvidia and AMD.

Intel said its consumer graphics division would merge with Intel's customer computing division, which makes chips for personal computers, and that the accelerated computing team would join its data center and artificial intelligence business.

Raja Koduri, who heads the accelerated computing systems and graphics division, will return to his previous position as chief architect of Intel, the company also announced. He will be responsible for Intel's long-term technology projects, such as developing advanced storage technology and integrating different types of chips to achieve higher-performance computing. He will work with Intel's design team. Those who report to him will move to Intel's PC or server chip business. Koduri led the graphics business at Apple and AMD before joining Intel in 2017.

"Independent graphics cards and accelerated computing are Intel's key growth engines," Intel said in a statement. "We are improving our structure to accelerate and expand their influence. and promote the go-to-market strategy by giving customers a unified voice."

The change comes at a time when Intel is doubling its bet on accelerated computing. With the proliferation of artificial intelligence applications, the field is dominated by Nvidia. Intel CEO Pat Kissinger (Pat Gelsinger) is implementing an ambitious and costly plan to return the company to the forefront of the $580 billion chip industry. He is trying to revive Intel's leadership in manufacturing technology and try to break into new markets such as graphics and outsourced manufacturing.
