According to news in the morning of December 22, Beijing time, people familiar with the matter said that electric car maker Tesla will freeze hiring and lay off staff again in the next quarter.

Tesla had no immediate comment.

Tesla shares rose 1 per cent to $139.25 in pre-market trading.

The move reportedly comes at a time when investors are worried that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is distracted from managing the social media platform Twitter. Last October, he bought Twitter for $44 billion (about 306.24 billion yuan).

In addition, Tesla analysts also lowered their target price for the stock, fearing that weak demand will drag on delivery next year.

Mr Musk said in June that Tesla would cut staff by about 10 per cent in the next three months.
