TrendForce Jibang Consulting said that there are four reasons why Mini LED backlit displays are concerned by car manufacturers. First, with Mini LED multi-zone backlight, the brightness of the display can be greatly increased by more than 1000 nits, which can reduce the bright light in the outdoor environment such as snow, sun and so on, resulting in low display effect and traffic safety risk. Second, the Mini LED backlight is used, in which the Mini LED can turn on or off with the light and shade of the picture, which can reduce the power consumption by about 10% compared with the traditional side-type backlight which needs to be turned on frequently, which meets the energy-saving needs of the car factory. Third, the interior display is gradually integrated towards large-scale, Mini LED direct backlight can be in line with the increase of display size, but also has a high curved surface display effect, compared with the traditional side-type backlight, the optical performance of high curved surface is better, which is suitable for different car display size design applications; fourth, Mini LED still continues the fine tradition of high reliability of LED and becomes the first choice for new display in car factories.

Therefore, Mini LED backlight display is better than traditional side-in backlight display in terms of overall brightness, contrast, power consumption and curved surface display, and compared with OLED, the price of Mini LED backlight display is between traditional side-in backlight display and OLED. Mini LED backlight display will have a high performance-to-price advantage, which can greatly enhance the willingness of car manufacturers to use Mini LED backlight display.

From the perspective of practitioner adoption, in 2022, Chinese car factory Nio and Roewe took the lead in using Mini LED backlight display on dashboards where the display effect is particularly important, followed by control panels that control the size of audio, video and air conditioners. GM introduces a 33.4-inch Mini LED backlit display with a central control plus dashboard, which integrates the dashboard and the central control display, towards a large-size trend. CTOnews.com learned that in the automotive supply chain of Mini LED backlight modules, Chinese car manufacturers use panels such as BOE to form vehicle display modules, as well as European and American car factories, which are mainly composed of Youda and Qunchuang panels, with their own vehicle display modules, regardless of whether the matching of Chinese and European automotive display modules are completed, they will all be delivered to Tier1 manufacturers such as Bosch and CarUX to do system integration.
