CTOnews.com, December 21 (Xinhua)-- German luxury carmaker Audi, which is "going all out" to develop electric vehicles, announced today that it plans to produce pure electric vehicles in all its factories around the world by 2029, according to Electrek. The move will not only reduce production costs, but will also help the carmaker achieve its previously stated goal of phasing out all fuel models by 2033.

Audi hopes all its factories can produce battery-powered cars, and it will invest 500 million euros (3.695 billion yuan) in the next few years to simplify the way it produces cars and electrify its factories. and train employees around the world to make electric cars.

CTOnews.com has learned that factories in Audi Bollinger-Hoff (Germany) and Brussels (Belgium) are already able to produce electric cars, and Ingolstadt (Germany) will follow suit next year, when the Q6 E-Tron will begin to go offline. In the next six years, the factories in Necasurm (Germany), San Jose-Chiapa (Mexico) and Jur (Hungary) will start producing electric cars. Audi said it would build new plants only in areas where additional capacity was needed. To this end, Audi and partner FAW are building a new production base in Changchun to produce electric vehicles based on the PPE platform, which will be completed by the end of 2024.

Audi believes that turning its existing plant into a "360 factory" will help the company save money in the future, meaning facilities that give equal weight to cost-effectiveness, sustainability, flexibility and attractiveness. Simplifying the construction process and electrification will allow more flexibility so that everything from the all-electric E-Tron GT to the S8 using internal combustion engines will be done on the same production line. It will also enable the company to better meet the needs of consumers, who will start buying more battery-powered cars in the coming years.

Audi has previously announced that it will release only electric vehicles from 2026 and phase out internal combustion engine cars by 2033.
