CTOnews.com, December 21 (Xinhua)-- AMD said in early May that even if users are equipped with NVMe storage devices, they may not be able to meet the requirements of SmartAccess Storage, which is based on Microsoft DirectStorage API. After AMD released the news, storage manufacturer Sabrent launched the world's first solid state drive designed specifically for DirectStorage, Sabrent Rocket Plus G.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft launched DirectStorage API for Windows PC in 2020, which is based on Xbox's Velocity architecture to maximize game performance and throughput and optimize modern storage interfaces (such as PCIe Gen4/5 and NVMe). For more information, you can visit here.

Foreign tubing channel TweakTown has previously tested Rocket Plus G, proving AMD's point of view. Today, Compusemble, a foreign tubing channel, conducted a benchmark test on Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus G again. Compared with the TweakTown test, Compusemble focuses more on the GPU decompression ability of the hard drive. This technology was introduced in the recent update of DirectStorage 1.1.

Unsurprisingly, this solid-state drive shows very impressive data compared to the WD_Black SN850X PCIe Gen 4 drive. First, although Sabrent Rocket Plus G writes faster with GPU decompression turned off, its performance is very close.

In the second test that enabled GPU decompression, Rocket Plus G achieved very impressive results, more than twice the speed of the Weigang XPG SX8200 Pro model, as can be seen in the picture below. The throughput of the former is 18.09GB / s and the latter is 8.06GB / s. Unsurprisingly, due to the GPU decompression, in the test of enabling GPU decompression, the utilization rate of CPU was greatly reduced.
