CTOnews.com December 21 news, feedback from some Win11 users caused major problems with the system after upgrading cumulative updates for KB5021255 (for 22H2) and KB5021234 (for 21H2). However, Microsoft officials have not acknowledged that there is a problem with the cumulative updates released on the two December patch Tuesdays.
Installation failed with 0x800f081f error
CTOnews.com learned that according to user feedback, users reported that they could not install properly when they tried to download cumulative updates for KB5021255 and KB5021234. When the installation fails, the user receives a meaningless error, but it is not clear what caused it.
In addition, some users received the error code 0x800f081f after failed update, which will be rolled back to the previous version after installation failure, but did not provide further details.
Foreign science and technology media Windows Lastest through the survey found that Win11 22H2 function update users feedback installation failure is more, although 21H2 also has, but the related reports are not many.
One user pointed out: "I have a Surface Book 2 with Windows 11 22H2. KB5021255 cannot be updated through Windows Update, nor can it be installed by a stand-alone installer downloaded from Windows Update Catalog, error is 0x800f081f".
The AMD CPU device is stuck.
In addition to the installation failure, there are also user reports of serious performance problems after installation. AMD CPU will get stuck for several minutes after the upgrade. Conflicts with third-party applications that modify the start menu and taskbar
In addition, after installing the above two cumulative updates, third-party applications that modify the start menu and taskbar will not work properly. One user commented: "after I tried to click the start icon, the corresponding menu did not pop up. I checked the CrashDumps folder and saw: 'StartMenuExperienceHost.exe.10884.dmp''.
In this case, a third-party application called "Explorer Patcher" seems to conflict with the December update of Windows 11, which may break the start menu.
If the start menu does not work, press Windows + R and type Control Panel. In the control panel, go to programs and features, and then look for "Explorer Patcher" or similar applications. Finally, click the uninstall button.
