Elon Musk, owner and CEO of Twitter, is looking for a new CEO for the company, according to people familiar with the matter. The work has been going on, and it started before Musk launched the poll.

Photo note: Musk Musk posted an opinion poll on Twitter on Sunday, asking Twitter users whether he should step down as Twitter CEO, regardless of the outcome. The final poll showed that 58 per cent of users supported him stepping down as CEO.

He has previously said that he is only serving as CEO on a temporary basis. In November, Musk also said in court that he would gradually reduce his working time on Twitter and find someone else to run Twitter. However, he tweeted on Sunday that there would be no successor. "the problem is not finding a CEO, but finding a CEO that will keep Twitter alive." He said.

In October, Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion. But his leadership has led to extraordinarily large layoffs, a surge in racist hate speech, advertisers fleeing or cutting spending on the platform and restoring previously banned accounts.
