Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Brother Black fly's left hand clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Dec. 21 (Reuters)-Microsoft was sued by consumers in a U.S. court on Tuesday, claiming that Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, maker of call of Duty, would illegally suppress competition in the video game industry, Reuters reported.

About two weeks after the FTC filed a lawsuit with an administrative law judge, the FTC filed a lawsuit in a federal court in California seeking to prevent Microsoft from completing the largest acquisition in the history of the video game industry.

The lawsuit, which seeks to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision, is filed on behalf of 10 video game players in California, New Mexico and New Jersey. The proposed acquisition would give Microsoft "far more market power in the video games industry, the ability to crowd out competitors, limit output, reduce consumer choices, raise prices and further curb competition", the complaint said.

CTOnews.com learned that a Microsoft representative defended the deal on Tuesday, saying in a statement that the acquisition "will expand competition and create more opportunities for game players and game developers." "We are fully confident in our deal and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court," Microsoft President Brad Smith said after the FTC lawsuit.

The FTC had previously said it was suing Microsoft to prevent "Microsoft from gaining control of a leading independent game studio". The agency said the acquisition would hurt competition with Nintendo and Sony.
