CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua)-- Market research firm Counterpoint Research has now released a global smartphone AP market report for the third quarter of 2022.

In terms of shipments, MediaTek still ranked first, but its market share fell from 38% to 35%, while Qualcomm, which ranked second, rose from 29% to 31%, and Apple, which ranked third, rose 3% to 16%. While Ziguang Zhanrui and Samsung both fell 1%, Huawei Hayes, which had a 1% share in the first quarter, was almost zero.

Counterpoint said demand in China's smartphone market was weak as customer inventory adjustments continued and the global macroeconomic situation declined. Analysts also expect 4G LTE SoC to decline more than 5G SOC in the fourth quarter of 2022, CTOnews.com has learned.

However, shipments of related models of the high-end MediaTek Tianji 9200, such as the vivo and OPPO, will boost MediaTek's market performance in the first quarter of 2023 to some extent. But overall, MediaTek's climbing momentum was weak in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will remain slow in the first half of 2023.

According to Counterpoint Research's survey, and through the sales data, Huawei has emptied the inventory of Hayes Kirin chips. Due to the ban in the United States, the brand is also unable to obtain chips from contract manufacturers such as TSMC and Samsung.
