The six giant cascade hydropower stations (Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, three Gorges and Gezhouba) built and operated by the three Gorges Group in the mainstream of the Yangtze River have installed 110 hydropower units with a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts and an average annual generating capacity of 300 billion kilowatt hours, forming the world's largest clean energy corridor spanning 1800 kilometers. It is of great significance to ensure flood control, power generation, shipping, water resources utilization and ecological security in the Yangtze River basin.

CTOnews.com has learned that from the start of construction of the Gezhouba Project, the first dam of the Yangtze River, to the construction of the three Gorges Project, the largest water conservancy project in the world, and then to the full commissioning of the Baihetan Hydropower Station, the construction of the world's largest clean energy corridor spans half a century. Chinese hydropower people persist in self-reliance and innovative development, overcome a series of world-class technical problems, and realize the historic leap of Chinese hydropower from following, running side by side, and then leading the world.

The million kilowatt hydrogenerator set installed in Baihetan Hydropower Station not only ranks first in the world in terms of unit capacity, but also achieves 100% localization. Research and development, manufacturing and installation have led to the upgrading of the whole industry chain of hydropower equipment in China.

After the Baihetan Hydropower Station is fully completed and put into operation, it will become the second largest hydropower station in the world after the three Gorges Hydropower Station, with an average annual generating capacity of 62.443 billion kilowatt hours, which can meet the electricity needs of about 75 million people a year, and can replace about 19.68 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 52 million tons.
