Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com Shipments of laptops, desktops and workstations in Western Europe fell 22% year-on-year to 12.8 million units in the third quarter of 2022, according to the latest data from research firm Canalys.

The previously stable commercial market, which fell due to low business confidence, coupled with slowing demand in the consumer market and education sector, led to poor notebook performance, with shipments of 10.4 million units, down 25% year-on-year. Desktops fared relatively well, down only 6 percent, thanks to continued purchases by large enterprises. Although the third quarter ushered in the back-to-school season, but the demand for replacement in the field of education is not large, tablet shipments reached 6 million units, down 13% year-on-year, month-on-month flat.

Canalys said consumer demand remained subdued because of rising prices, particularly for energy. Moreover, demand at different price levels has changed as real incomes have shrunk in Western Europe. The decline at the low end of the market is much greater than at the middle and high end, reflecting the differential impact of inflation on different income groups. As disposable income shrinks further, consumer demand will shift from high-end products to more affordable options. Manufacturers with more product portfolios and broader price ranges can take advantage of this to increase their shipments.

CTOnews.com notes that, specific to manufacturers, the top five shipments of laptops, desktops and workstations in Western Europe are Lenovo, HP, Apple, Dell and ASUS, with the exception of Apple's 20.4% year-on-year growth, the other four are declining, falling by about 20% to 30%. In terms of tablet shipments, the top five are Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, Amazon and Huawei, with only Samsung growing year-on-year and others declining.
