CTOnews.com news on December 20, open source compression software PeaZip version 9.0 was released. The new version completes the graphical user interface improvements starting with PeaZip 8, increases running speed, reduces memory footprint, and introduces a number of important improvements.

Existing users can access help-check for updates to automatically download and install the new version. This version is also available as a stand-alone version to all supported operating systems in the project's GitHub repository.

The official update log lists all the improvements and changes in PeaZip 9.0. Developers improved the speed and memory usage of the application and cleaned up the legacy code in the new version. According to the update log, the archive memory footprint of the 250K project opened by PeaZip 9.0 was reduced by 10% and the speed was increased by 10%. The value varies depending on the size of the file, but there has been a considerable improvement in resources for handling large files.

CTOnews.com learned that PeaZip 9 does not support the modern right-click menu of Windows 11 by default, but Windows 11 users can find the REG registration file in the appropriate folder to add entries to the modern right-click menu.

Interface adjustments have been completed in the new version, and support for 7z, 7zip and TAR formats has been improved. The 7-Zip format supports options such as do not modify last access time, do not track symbolic links / hard links, and limit maximum memory usage during compression.
