CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft announced last Friday that it will permanently disable Internet Explorer 11 on some Win10 systems in February next year. In addition to the announcement, Microsoft has warned a number of companies that businesses that still rely on IE11 could be at risk of disruption.

Microsoft explained in its latest announcement on the Windows message center page: "the change to disable IE with Microsoft Edge updates is designed to provide a better user experience and help organizations transition their last remaining IE11 users to Microsoft Edge. As a reminder, IE11 will no longer receive support as of June 15, 2022."

CTOnews.com learned that enterprises that solve this problem through the IE Mode of Edge browsers will not be affected, while enterprises that still rely on IE11 will face the risk of business delays or business disruptions. Microsoft has recommended that IT administrators start migrating now and hide or delete IE portals on employees' computers as soon as possible.

"if you want to disable IE policy by February 14, 2023, you can hide or remove IE visual references on the taskbar or start menu from now on," Microsoft said. If your organization still relies on IE11, you must now take steps to complete the transition by February 14, 2023, or risk massive business disruption when users cannot access applications that rely on IE11.

If the administrator does not take action, Microsoft added that visual references to the IE11 icon on the start menu and taskbar will be automatically deleted through subsequent updates in mid-2023.

Microsoft details: "automatically remove the visual reference of Windows (such as the IE11 icon on the start menu and taskbar) in the monthly security update (version B) of IE11 released on June 13, 2023. The visual reference of IE11 will also be removed in the non-secure update released on May 23, 2023."
