CTOnews.com, December 20, according to Kyodo News, PowerX (Tokyo) plans to build the largest battery factory in Japan, which is scheduled to be completed in October 2023 and officially put into production around the spring of 2024.

CTOnews.com has learned that its envisaged maximum annual production is 5GWh, which is equivalent to the daily electricity consumption of about 450000 households in Japan.

According to public information, PowerX was established in March 2021 to produce large-capacity and affordable batteries. President Masayu Ito also mentioned the development and manufacture of pure electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and power carriers.

Kyodo News Agency pointed out that renewable energy whose output power is easily affected by meteorological conditions such as sunlight and wind is being popularized in a timely manner, and it is difficult to maintain a balance between supply and demand. In order not to waste the electricity generated, the demand for storage batteries has increased, but the number of manufacturers in Japan to enter the field is still small.

According to the plan, PowerX will employ more than 100 people locally by 2028 to manufacture four types of batteries for fixed, household, marine and EV charging, which are located in logistics warehouses. Due to the higher-than-expected orders received, PowerX will also carry out production at the plant in Ishii-cho, Tokushima prefecture, in order to deliver the products as soon as possible.
