CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua)-- Meta's Reality Labs (reality Lab) division may be burning money, but not all for underperforming VR headsets. Meta's chief technology officer and head of reality labs, Andrew Bosworth, said in a blog post Monday that the company currently spends "about half" of Reality Labs's operating expenses on augmented reality (AR).

The company has been trying to achieve its vision of AR glasses, and although the product may be a long way off, Meta has recently taken steps to achieve it. Meta's AR glasses may be paired with other hardware, The Information reported on Monday. The company is testing a device shaped like a mobile phone that can be used to "send instructions to glasses or gain more computing power for them". Meta also tried to make a smartwatch to match the glasses, but encountered power and design problems.

In his article, Bosworth discussed other aspects of Reality Labs's work, reiterating that the company was working to improve its widely derided profile picture system. Horizon Worlds, Meta's Roblox-like social VR platform, has been trying to retain users, and Bosworth promised that Meta will "focus on helping the community thrive in 2023," and users can look forward to the official debut of the "Meta Quest Game Show" and the "successor to Meta Quest 2" in the spring, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned in the company's recent earnings report.
