CTOnews.com, December 19 (Xinhua) Elon Musk (Elon Musk) posted a poll on Twitter on Sunday night: "should I resign as Twitter CEO?" Soon, the vote became the hottest topic in the United States. Today, the voting channel has been closed, with 57.5% in favor and 42.5% against. More than 17.5 million people voted.

Musk said on Sunday that he would abide by the results of the vote. But he did not specify when he would step down if he voted in favor of his departure.

Two months ago, Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion and served as Twitter CEO himself. Since taking over Twitter, drastic reforms have begun, and thousands of people have been laid off.

Shares in Tesla, an electric carmaker led by Mr Musk, rose about 5 per cent in pre-market trading.

Musk, who lost his title as the world's richest man earlier this month, also founded tunnel company Boring Company, backed medical equipment company Neuralink, and led rocket company SpaceX.

Tesla's investors have been worried that Musk has made himself too tired after the Twitter deal.

CTOnews.com has learned that Tesla's shares have lost nearly 60 per cent of their value this year as they, like other carmakers, struggle with supply chain problems and increasing competition in electric vehicles.

"it seems that Musk's reign as CEO of Twitter will come to an end, which is a significant positive for Tesla's stock," Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush, said in a note.

"Musk is Tesla and Tesla is Musk."

Tesla is listed as one of the world's top automakers, delivering about 1 million cars a year. But recent logistics challenges, epidemic-related blockades, high borrowing costs and bleak prospects for global economic growth have all raised concerns.

Last month, Musk told a Delaware court that he would reduce his time at Twitter and eventually find a new leader to run the social media company.

"there is no successor yet," Musk said on Sunday in response to a comment from a Twitter user about a possible replacement of CEO.

The vote comes after Twitter updated its policy on Sunday, which bans accounts created solely to promote other social media companies and content that contains links or user names from rival platforms.
