Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, December 19, Korea Radio International reported that South Korea's first lunar probe, "DANURI", completed its first near-month braking at 2: 45 a.m. on the 17th of this month as planned.

The Korean Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Ministry of Science and Technology Information and Communication said on the 19th that the analysis of the orbit information within two days after the first near-month braking of "DANURI" showed that "DANURI" slowed down to the target speed on the same day. The Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics said that "DANURI" was successfully captured by lunar gravity and became a real lunar orbiter orbiting the moon.

"DANURI" is currently located in an elliptical orbit 109km from the lunar perigee and 8920 km from apogee with a rotation period of 12.3hours. The goal of the first near-moon braking is to make "DANURI" captured by the moon's gravity, not to miss the moon, and the most important one. "DANURI" will enter the mission orbit 100km above the moon after the remaining four near-moon braking. The second brake is scheduled for December 21, and December 29 will confirm whether "DANURI" has successfully entered the mission orbit.

CTOnews.com learned that "DANURI" means "enjoy the moon" in Korean. "Danuri is just the beginning," Sang-Ryool Lee, director of the Korea Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, said in a live webcast of SpaceX's launch. South Korea plans to land its own robot probe on the moon around 2030.
