According to introduction,"Weihai No.1" is a sub-project of the R & D and application project of key technologies for the acquisition of space-based marine information, the largest scientific and technological innovation project since Weihai was founded. It is a major scientific research project that Harbin Institute of Technology has taken root and sprouted in Weihai. The three-year project was officially launched at the end of last year and significant progress has been made in less than a year.

The project is under the responsibility of Weihai Advanced Technology Research Institute of Laser Communication."Weihai No.1" can realize effective detection of marine targets through multi-source remote sensing information fusion and inter-satellite laser communication, which will provide strong support for fishing vessel supervision, shipping safety and economic development of marine fishery.

"Weihai No.1" realizes long-distance and large-scale observation of marine ship targets and marine environment by establishing a space-based satellite observation platform.

CTOnews.com learned that the "Weihai I" satellite system is divided into five subsystems: satellite carrier, laser communication payload, optical remote sensing payload and VEDS. Weihai Institute of Advanced Technology for Laser Communication mainly undertakes the technical research and development and terminal production of the laser communication subsystem of "Weihai I."

It is reported that the industry used to use radio waves to 'signal', but now with the gradual maturity of space laser communication technology, we have been able to widely apply space laser communication technology to broadband data transmission between satellites, satellites and other links, and gradually expand to deep space exploration, underwater and ground access communications.

"Weihai No.1" uses laser signal communication between satellite and ground, which can enable satellites to transmit data to the ground at a speed of several thousand megabytes per second.
