CTOnews.com, December 19 (Xinhua)-- Infineon, an international chip maker, announced that it has appointed Herbert Diess as chairman of its supervisory board, marking the return of the former president of Volkswagen to a big German company.

In fact, Infineon's biggest customers are the carmakers that Deiss is most familiar with, and they have been one of the winners of the global semiconductor shortage. Deiss, the new chairman of the supervisory board, was a member of Infineon's supervisory board from 2015 to 2020.

Two years ago, Infineon bought Cypress, an American competitor, for 9 billion euros, making it the world's largest supplier of silicon chips to the automotive industry.

In addition, Infineon also said that two board members, including its current chairman, Wolfgang Eder, will not seek re-election at the next shareholder vote on February 16. This will make room for Deiss and Klaus Helmrich, a former Siemens executive.

It is reported that Dis, which eventually stepped down in July under pressure from unions and shareholders, sparked a series of disputes within Volkswagen when it said it might need to cut nearly 30,000 jobs as Volkswagen transitioned to electric cars.

Jochen Hanebeck, Infineon's chief executive, said earlier this year that Deiss and Helmrich were "proven professionals in determining the major themes that determine the future of our business".
