CTOnews.com, December 18, according to CCTV news, today (December 18), the ocean drilling ship, the first ultra-deepwater scientific research ship designed and built by China to drill 10,000 meters in the deep sea, has completed the main hull in Nansha District of Guangzhou City and is about to be launched, marking a key step in the construction of major equipment in China's deep-sea exploration field.

The ocean drilling ship is China's first ultra-deep water scientific research drilling ship, which belongs to the Ministry of Natural Resources, China Geological Survey, with a designed displacement of 42000 tons, and has the operating capacity of unlimited navigation area in the global sea area and the drilling capacity of more than 10000 meters in the sea area. The ship was designed by the 708 Research Institute of China Shipping Group and built by China Shipping Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

As an "important tool" to support the construction of a marine power, the design and construction of ocean drilling ships focus on solving major scientific problems of resources and environment in the deep parts of the earth, and have two major operation modes: oil and gas drilling and ocean scientific drilling. it has both riser and non-riser drilling mode. In addition, the drilling ship plans to be equipped with ten categories of advanced shipborne equipment to form nine laboratories covering the whole field of marine research, and for the first time to build a world-class standard paleomagnetism and super-clean laboratory, the overall equipment and comprehensive operation capacity are in the international leading level.

The follow-up ocean drilling ship will carry out construction area loading, equipment installation and commissioning, wharf test and other work, which is expected to be fully completed in 2024. After completion, it will mainly undertake the task of ocean scientific drilling in major national science and technology projects and international science programs.

CTOnews.com has learned that the sea area with a depth of less than 1000 meters is defined as the deep sea. At present, only 5% of the deep sea that mankind has explored is still unknown. Ocean drilling ship is one of the increasing investment in deep-sea research in the past half a century. it is an "aircraft carrier" carrying a series of large-scale international deep-sea research projects.
