Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, December 17, JEDEC solid State Technology Association today announced the release of JESD312 Automotive solid State disk (SSD) device standard V1.0. JESD312 defines packages, protocols, environmental requirements, and electrical interfaces for solid state drives for automotive and similar rugged applications.

Cars have increasingly become data centers on wheels, and the emergence of new standards reflects this reality. Protocols that are already popular on servers are now entering cars. JEDEC's JESD312 automotive solid state drive standard defines a standard series of ball grid array (BGA) devices that can be used in harsh environments. It includes a PCIe 4.0interface with four data channels with maximum throughput of 8GB / s, NVMe command protocol common in data center applications, high security encryption code, and a wide operating range from-40 to + 105 ℃.

CTOnews.com learned that the JESD312 standard is also forward-looking, allowing options such as split storage arrays, separating the operating system from application code, and supporting single input / output virtualization (SR / IOV) for applications where many processors share SSD resources.

"JEDEC's new automotive solid state drive standard is designed to meet the industry's demand for standardized equipment to meet the requirements of the next generation of vehicles, including self-driving cars. In addition, it takes into account the needs of industrial applications, making the market for these chips growing," said Jeffrey Chung, chairman of the automotive working group that developed the standard.

Mian Quddus, chairman of the board of JEDEC, added: "integrating the industry into a single package, pin and protocol will enable many end users and many equipment suppliers to rapidly develop a directly compatible SSD market in these emerging applications. JESD312 provides an opportunity to reduce costs and risks across the board."

JEDEC is a global leader in setting standards for the microelectronics industry. Thousands of people representing more than 350 member companies work together on more than 100 JEDEC committees and task forces to meet the needs of every part of the industry, manufacturers and consumers. Publications and standards produced by the JEDEC Committee are accepted around the world. All JEDEC standards can be downloaded from the JEDEC website.
