According to China Railway, train D9856 pulled out of Honghe Station and headed for Kunming Station at 09:40 on December 16, and the high-speed railway from Maitreya to Mengzi (referred to as "Mimeng High-speed Railway") was officially put into operation, CTOnews.com reported on December 16.

With a total length of 106 kilometers and a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour, the Mimeng high-speed railway has five stations: Maitreya, Zhuyuan, Pengpu, Kaiyuanan and Honghe, of which Maitreya Station is an existing station and the rest are newly built stations.

CTOnews.com learned that the construction of Mimeng high-speed railway began in June 2018, and the participating units built 52 bridges, including Lengshuigou double-line Bridge and Lujiang double-line Bridge, and opened 10 tunnels, including Zhongjiao tunnel and high-risk tunnel Kaiyuan tunnel, and successfully completed the construction task.

The Mimeng high-speed railway, which connects Nanning to Kunming in the north and Kunming to Hekou in the south, is an important part of the railway corridor from southwest China to ASEAN countries, according to the railway department.

According to reports, at the initial stage of the opening of the Mimeng high-speed railway, the railway department will arrange for the operation of mobile vehicles, which can be reached from Kunming South Station to Honghe Station at 69 minutes at the earliest, and Maitreya, Kaiyuan and Mengzi can be reached in half an hour in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. The railway department will dynamically adjust the train operation plan according to the changes in passenger flow.
