CTOnews.com December 16, the third-party file manager application Files has released a version 2.4 update, officially migrating from Universal Windows Platform (UWP) to a more modern WindowsAppSDK. Files also released a small update 2.4.2 today, introducing visual effects similar to Microsoft Mica.

Microsoft currently provides two UX materials, Mica and Mica Alt, in Win11 UX design. The migration of the Files app to WindowsAppSDK means that the third-party file manager application can also get a visual upgrade in this area.

CTOnews.com learned that Mica is an opaque dynamic material that contains themes and desktop wallpaper for drawing the background of long-term windows such as applications and settings. You can apply Mica to the application background to improve productivity by pleasing users and creating visual hierarchies by improving their focus.

Mica is specifically designed to optimize the performance of applications, and it can create visualization by taking only one sample of desktop wallpaper. Mica is suitable for UWP applications using WinUI 2 and SDK 1.1 or later applications using Windows, while running on Windows 11 version 22000 or later.
