CTOnews.com, December 16 (Xinhua)-- Apple was sued by US consumers in July due to a malfunction of the MacBook model's "butterfly keyboard". In late November, Apple announced the launch of a $50 million compensation program to compensate affected users. Today, some users reported that they had received the compensation and could get up to $395 (about 2753 yuan).

In an email sent today to the affected MacBook owners, Apple wrote:

Dear MacBook owner,

This letter today is in response to your previous claim for compensation for the failure of the MacBook butterfly keyboard. On November 28, 2022, the court tentatively approved a $50 million national settlement plan that would pay compensation to MacBook buyers who repaired butterfly keyboards.

You can find more information about the settlement, eligibility, and approval procedures at www.KeyboardSettlement.com.

CTOnews.com learned that users will pay compensation in stages. The first batch of users are those who have repaired the butterfly keyboard twice in four years since MacBook was purchased; the second are those who have repaired the keyboard once; and then are the users who have replaced the keyboard.

Each person will receive a different amount of compensation, with a maximum of $395 if the entire butterfly keyboard is replaced more than twice. The entire compensation process will be completed on March 6, 2023, and the final approval hearing will be held on March 16, 2023.
