CTOnews.com announced on December 16 that the first public beta version of iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 was launched to public testers today, just one day after the developer beta version was released.

This update introduces support for physical security keys as an additional protection for Apple ID. Apple just announced the new feature last week and is expected to launch it in 2023. Apple ID's security key will give users the option to add a third-party security key to their account.

With this feature, when logging in to Apple ID on iCloud or a new device, you can use the security key of physical FIDO authentication instead of device authentication. Apple says physical security keys provide strong protection against phishing and unauthorized account access.

The security key can be set on the device running beta by entering Apple ID > security key and following the instructions. CTOnews.com has learned that currently iPhone, iPad, and Mac all support FIDO authentication security keys.

In addition, Apple has added a new simplified guide to iOS 16.3 to help and guide users on how to transfer and control music from iPhone to HomePod. Users can move the iPhone close to the HomePod to view playback controls or to transfer audio between devices.

In addition to iOS 16.3, Apple also launched Beta beta versions of tvOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3 and macOS 13.2. Apple plans to release an official update of iOS 16.3 sometime in February or early March, Bloomberg Mark Gurman reported.
