The original title: "the soul of working PPT is it?!" (practical information sharing) "

As a designer, what are the more valuable skills than beautification?

Friends who are beginners in design may be strange to this topic.

Because in the eyes of the public,

The quality of a work lies in the final visual effect.

Whether it looks good or not seems to be the most critical yardstick.

But is that really the case?

I think it's going to be a question mark.

What on earth is a skill that is more valuable than beautification?

I'm going to show it with a slide from zero to one:

I. manuscript

Copy hidden sensitive information when I first got this page, I was as confused as you. I don't know what this "horizontal, N vertical" refers to.

Of course, there is no deliberate research, because the customer's requirement is how to make the page more classy.

So how would you design a page like this?

Think about it a little.

I think most of my friends will deal with it like this:

At present, the page is in space, I first go to find a high-definition background picture to paste on the background, and then cover the mask above, so the visual effect will come out. As for the above elements, zoom in at the end of the alignment.

This kind of design technique is common in all kinds of official accounts, but it is not feasible in working slides.

Because, working (especially consulting) slides are taboo to overlap large pictures, so pictures should be used carefully.

So without pictures, how can you beautify the page against a white background and make the page look more classy?

Here is my answer:

II. Design draft 1.0

Please ignore the duplicate icons, because the copywriter is also made up. In this draft, I made the following updates:

I use parallelograms instead of traditional rectangles. At the same time, the parallelograms below are scattered and typesetting, with "one horizontal" and "N vertical" on both sides to make the page more dynamic.

Add a gradient parallelogram stacked at the bottom to make the page more hierarchical.

Icon elements are added to each item to make the page more vivid.

Well, it's not bad in terms of design sense. If you also think this page of PPT is great, then today's article will certainly give you some inspiration.

But when I showed this page to my master (one of the best in the field of consulting PPT in China), I got this answer: you can do this, but without your own thinking, there is no structural thing in the page, and there is no difference between you and an artist.

As a matter of fact, I have always designed around the starting point of looking good, without thinking about the copywriting at a deeper level. (actually, I have no idea what the copywriting on this page means, because it is quite obscure and professional. let alone understand the connection between "horizontal" and "vertical". )

Of course, I also have a doubt: at present, this page is a horizontal section above, and there are a series of vertical sections below. This is what I understand as the "structure". What on earth is the "structure" mentioned by the master?

So the master took me to redesign the page. The first is to understand copywriting, although we can not understand these professional words, but we can settle down some verbs and nouns that can be understood. For example, a horizontal foot in the service, the following columns are business models, capacity improvement, transformation and innovation, and so on. Taken together, it is to take this service as a support to protect the following points.

In many cases, it doesn't matter if we don't understand professional nouns, as long as we can grasp some of them, we can also deduce the logic behind them.

After the copywriting is understood, the structure of the page can be built at a deeper level, and the master has finally completed the following draft:

III. Design draft 2.0

Please ignore the repeated icons, because the copy is also made up, it is also the upper and lower structure, but there are more changes. "horizontal and N vertical" has become a whole, horizontal service wraps several vertical bars, but also highlights the logic behind the copy, clear at a glance.

Later, the design of this page was specifically named and praised by the customer, so it can be seen that it really solved the customer's pain point! To meet its needs.

Seeing this, I think some friends may not see the gap between me and my master's revision.

Next, I'll show you the logic behind these three pages of PPT in graphical language:

To make it easier to see the point, I removed various embellishments and copywriting, and only looked at the structure behind it.

Original: the relationship between horizontal and vertical is not clear.

Design draft 1.0: the form looks good, but the relationship between horizontal and vertical becomes more scattered.

Design draft 2.0: structured integration of horizontal and vertical relationships, clear at a glance

At this point, I think you can understand that what I am trying to say is more valuable than beautification is the ability of structured integration. I just want the text to be shown more clearly in graphic language.

Powerpoint refers to the powerful point of view, not just beautify the design, the essence lies in the clear expression of the content point of view. In fact, this is also a form of product thinking, thinking from the customer's point of view, how to show the idea more understandable than simply good looks more direct.

In the future, I will pay more attention to the structured way of thinking.

Keep improving on the road of professional designers!
