CTOnews.com, December 15 (Xinhua)-- Mercedes-Benz announced on the 14th that it will spend more than 1 billion euros to adjust its global electric power system production network, including battery assembly, electric drives and axles, from 2024.

"every Mercedes-Benz plant is included in the new production network," the company said. Among them, German Kamenz, German Untertuerkheim and Beijing will assemble batteries for models based on MMA and MB.EA platforms; German Untertuerkheim, Beijing and Romanian Sebes will also produce electric drives for vehicles on the new platform; Hamburg and Untertuerkheim will continue to be the main factories for assembling electric axles and components.

Mercedes-Benz hopes to become an all-electric brand by 2030, "as long as market conditions permit". In this strategy, the Unterturkheim plant near Stuttgart, Germany, will transition to a "pure electric" role.

The German luxury brand launched the EQ series of all-electric cars and the Generation EQ concept car in 2016, but the company first experimented with battery-powered vehicles in the 1900s, the Mercer é d è s Electrique in 1906. Over the years, Mercedes-Benz has tried electric cars through prototypes of buses, Vans, station wagons, cars and city cars.

CTOnews.com learned that Mercedes-Benz's first mass-produced EQ was the EQE SUV launched in 2019, followed by a range of sedans, crossovers and Vans, increasing the total number of models available to 10 in just a few years.
