Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, December 15 (Xinhua)-- A move proposed by Elon Musk may allow Twitter ads to track users, seemingly in clear violation of Apple's App Store rules, according to a new report today.
Another report said Musk had taken or considered some desperate actions to save money, including breaking the law by refusing to pay severance pay to former employees.
Twitter ads may follow you. Platformer reported that Musk didn't seem to do the math when he announced Twitter Blue.
Musk has promised that users of the $8-a-month service will see half as many ads as free users. But according to internal estimates, this will cost the company about $6 a month in advertising revenue per user. Add in the cost of Apple's App Store, and the new Twitter Blue subscription service will cost the company a loss.
According to the report, one of Musk's plans to solve this problem is to force all Twitter users to choose to accept personalized ads in order to use the app.
CTOnews.com has learned that it is not entirely clear how this can be achieved on iPhone without violating Apple's app censorship guidelines. Apple stipulates that you cannot use an application on the condition that tracking is allowed.
Applications should allow users to get what they pay without performing extra tasks, such as posting information on social media, uploading contacts, checking in on the app, and so on. Applications should not require users to grade applications, comment on applications, watch videos, download other applications, click on ads, enable tracking, or take other similar actions to obtain features, content, use of the application, or currency or other compensation, including, but not limited to, gift cards and codes.
This could trigger another battle between Musk and Apple after accusing the company of opposing free speech and then reconciling with Tim Cook shortly afterwards.
Musk is eager to save money the New York Times reports that Musk continues his cost-cutting efforts and does not seem afraid of breaking the law to do so. He has ordered employees not to pay some bills, including rents for the company's offices around the world, and is considering not paying unpaid severance pay for laid-off employees.
Three people close to the company said Twitter had not paid rent for its San Francisco headquarters or any global office for weeks to cut costs. Twitter also refused to pay $197725 for private charter flights during the week Musk took over, according to a copy of the lawsuit filed in New Hampshire District Court obtained by the New York Times.
Twitter leaders also discussed the consequences of refusing to pay severance payments to thousands of people laid off, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
These layoffs are not over yet. Musk disbanded his trust and security committee and stopped working for the company after firing two of the company's most senior lawyers and replacing them with his private lawyer, Alex Spiro, according to six sources in the New York Times.
