On the morning of December 14, Beijing time, at the 2022 RISC-V International Summit, Ali Pingtou showed the latest progress in the integration of RISC-V architecture and Android system: based on the SoC prototype Shadow 1520 Rislue V successfully ran multimedia, 3D rendering, AI recognition and other scenes and functions on Android 12 (AOSP). This means that Android has been further verified on RISC-V hardware, and the integration of the two systems has begun to enter a new stage of natively supported applications.

After the successful implementation of most of the basic functions, the integration of RISC-V and Android has entered the field of application verification, facing more technical and system challenges such as missing modules and inconsistent interfaces. For example, in the vehicle scenario, the hardware layer needs to redesign the bus to support multi-input, the system layer should be compatible with peripheral hardware and meet higher security requirements, and the application layer also needs to open and coordinate multiple vehicle subsystems.

According to him, Pingtou repaired and clarified 28% of the CTS and 57% of the VTS test case set, and the use case pass rate increased significantly to a more stable 89% and 78%, making the test complete the leap from the unit module to the overall system. For Android's key native functions such as Bionic, Art and image codec, flat head improves its performance by up to 60% through software and hardware optimization.

Based on Shadow 1520, Pingtou achieved a complete connection from the underlying hardware to Android and then to the upper applications. Demo demonstrated the related results for the first time at the 2022 RISC-V International Summit: a demo video demonstrates the multi-channel codec capability, and the encoding time is greatly compressed from 100ms to 5ms per frame; another demo demonstrates high-performance 3D rendering, improving the performance ceiling of the integration of the two systems.

It is understood that in June this year, Google and Pingtou reached a company-level contributor license agreement; in October, the Android AOSP community received the world's first RISC-V patches from Pingtou. So far, Pingtou has submitted 80 RISC-V technology patches, 50 of which have been incorporated into Android AOSP native system, which is a key driver of the integration of the two systems.
