CTOnews.com, December 14, Nokia Bell announced that recently, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the IMT-2030 (6G) Propulsion Group organized a prototype test of 6G key technology concepts, and Nokia Bell successfully completed terahertz communication and synaesthesia integration test verification.
The IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, established under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other ministries, is the main platform for pooling industry-university-research forces to promote sixth-generation mobile communication technology research and international exchanges and cooperation. The Propulsion Group launched a test of 6G technology in 2022 to evaluate and test 6G potential key technologies. As an important member of China IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, Nokia Bell has actively participated in and promoted the research, evaluation and verification of 6G key technologies.
According to reports, terahertz communication is the most potential technology to explore larger bandwidth and new spectrum resources in the 6G era. Recently, Nokia Bell has achieved fruitful results in the research of ultra-high-speed wireless transmission in terahertz band. Through a series of technologies such as innovative air interface, wireless receiver based on artificial intelligence and multi-layer MIMO (multi-input and multi-output), the terahertz conceptual prototype of 220GHz band has achieved higher-speed wireless transmission than 200Gbps in the test environment, which will actively promote the application of immersive XR and holographic presentation in 6G era.
CTOnews.com learned that, as one of the 6G pillar technologies, synaesthesia will give future communication networks ubiquitous perception, thereby enhancing human perception and helping network intelligence to provide a ubiquitous sixth sense. Through innovative synaesthesia integration architecture and advanced communication perception fusion technology, Nokia Bell achieves high-performance and diversified perception in complex environments, including high-precision positioning that can achieve decimeter-level trajectory tracking, non-contact vibration detection with very low error rate (< 0.1%) in industrial environment, multi-target intrusion detection, and non-contact respiratory monitoring with the same accuracy as commercial medical instruments. At the same time, it can also carry out high-speed wireless communication with much higher spectral efficiency than 5G system. These breakthrough synaesthesia technologies have laid the foundation for new applications such as smart home, digital factory and smart city in the future.
