CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- according to the Nikkei News, Apple announced that Sony Semiconductor Solutions, the semiconductor business company of Sony Group, which supplies iPhone camera image sensors for smartphones, has agreed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, including direct emissions from its own devices. This is the first Japanese company to respond to Apple's push to decarbonize the entire supply chain.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is visiting Japan, confirmed the decarbonization initiative when he visited the Sony plant in Kumamoto prefecture. Sony will replace the electricity it buys from outside with electricity from renewable sources and will effectively reduce greenhouse gases such as fuel consumed by its own equipment to zero by 2030.
