CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- the Mars rover perseverance rover has captured a similar "dust storm" sound on Mars, the first time that humans have recorded a "dust storm" interior sound on another planet, scientists will use this sound to reveal the interior of the vortex structure, NASA announced on Tuesday local time.

CTOnews.com learned that rover and perseverance were launched on July 30, 2020 and landed on Mars on February 18, 2021. As part of the Mars 2020 mission, NASA plans to use the spacecraft to explore Jezero crater and look for signs of ancient microbial life.

In fact, the perseverance rover has been in Jezero crater since February 2021, but it has never successfully recorded an audio before. This time, it used a SuperCam microphone to capture the deep and mysterious sound of a Martian dust storm.

Perseverance also captured images of an impending storm (also included in the video), but only recorded sound clips that lasted less than three minutes.

"I can't think of any previous case where so much data from so many instruments can help describe the characteristics of a dust storm," said John Edward Morse, a planetary scientist at York University. " If (the camera) points in a different direction, or if the time of microphone observation is delayed by a few seconds, then the key part of the story will be lost.
