Tomac Tomasz Orynski analyzed the usefulness of Semi electric heavy trucks from the cockpit point of view. Although Tesla claimed that the car was "built around the driver", Ollisic gave several examples to show that this claim is completely nonsense.

Ollisic first thought that the Semi's mid-seat is a complete waste of space, which is more suitable for McLaren F1 supercars, but not for trucks.

He says the centring of the driver's seat makes it more difficult for drivers to observe the road ahead and to overtake. Because the body of the truck itself is very wide, when driving on a two-way road, it is easier for the driver to sit on one side to observe the road ahead and the vehicles coming in the opposite direction. If the driver sits in the middle of the cockpit, it is far from the edge of the driveway, so it is difficult to observe the traffic and road conditions ahead.

In addition, truck drivers need to communicate with doormen and process documents when transporting goods in and out of the factory, and pay tolls when passing through road toll stations. But because the Semi electric heavy truck does not have a window to open, the driver must stand up from the driver's seat and open the door to deal with all kinds of things, even in the cold winter.

Ollisic also complained about the cold weather that the Semi's door at the back of the cockpit was also a failure. In contrast to traditional trucks, where the door goes straight to the driver's seat, the Semi is designed to take a few steps before the driver can sit down, he said. If the driver wears muddy shoes in winter, it will make a mess inside the cockpit. In order not to get Semi's cockpit dirty, drivers may have to take off their shoes and walk barefoot in the cockpit.

In addition, the Semi electric heavy truck can not put the bed, Ollisic believes that this is another defect of the electric truck. Because the Semi electric heavy truck designs the door at the back of the cockpit, it is impossible to put the bed behind the driver's seat. Semi electric heavy trucks may not be designed for long-distance driving, but Ollisic says people who burn the midnight oil know that lying down and taking a nap is great for safe driving.

Ollisic also doesn't like the big screens in the Semi cockpit. According to him, "tablets are not designed for vehicles at all." Ollisic believes that drivers need more physical buttons on the truck so that they can be touched without taking their eyes off the road. He also complains that screens reflect so much that they glow even in dark mode, which is not suitable for driving at night.

Ollisic is also extremely dissatisfied with Semi's rearview mirror. As the driver's seat is in the middle of the cockpit and the front of the cockpit is narrower, Tesla has to put the rearview mirrors on both sides of the car on a very long bracket. In this way, if the rearview mirror is dirty, it will be difficult for the driver to clean.

Finally, Ollisic was also dissatisfied with Tesla's tilted front windshield and bullet-shaped cockpit. Although this is more aerodynamic, it is more likely to snow in winter, Ollie said. He says it is difficult to remove snow from the front block of a small car in winter, let alone the snow on the surface of glass three meters above the ground, which is not the problem with the vertical windshield of a traditional truck. In addition, the tilted windshield will make the interior of the car hotter in summer.

Although Tesla's investors will say that this view is only one opinion, many truck drivers have a similar view of Semi electric heavy trucks. They are also particularly worried that it will take more than five minutes to recharge the truck.
