CTOnews.com, December 13, according to a report by Taiwan media TechNews, in the face of RISC-V 's active expansion, Drew Henry, executive vice president of strategy and marketing of Arm, said at the media sharing meeting that healthy competition should be viewed positively, while the huge ecosystem of hardware efficiency, software and development tools that Arm has built for a long time is the greatest advantage and can also meet the needs of the industry.

▲ source ArmDrew Henry said that with the sharp increase in demand for data centers and the rise of new applications such as self-driving cars, AI and the Internet of things, the market's demand for computing power is getting higher and higher, which also makes Moore's Law a challenge. Nowadays, it is very difficult to rely on a single technology to continue Moore's Law, so Arm can continue Moore's Law in different fields and optimize the operation through IP, software and so on.

When it comes to the menacing RISC-V, Henry smiles, "I like competition," and hopes that people are looking at healthy competition as a good thing, so that the industry knows more about what is important.

Henry also stressed that for computing, it is very important but difficult for software services and applications to run smoothly on any platform, which has been achieved by the Arm architecture. Arm's hardware, software and development kits have good compatibility and can operate on any Arm ecological platform, which is a huge advantage and can also meet the needs of the industry.

In addition, Henry pointed out that the game rules of the global semiconductor industry have changed, but it does not affect the operation of Arm. Although the rules have changed, the problem of computing still exists. Arm is an IP supplier with customers all over the United States, China, Europe and other regions. In the future, it will provide Arm architecture solutions according to customer needs on the basis of meeting the latest international norms, and will not change the existing business model.

CTOnews.com learned that in July this year, Calista Redmond, CEO of RISC-V International, revealed at the embedded World Exhibition that there were 10 billion RISC-V cores on the market.

In addition, more and more technology enterprises or departments are choosing RISC-V. SiFive, a well-known US RISC-V chip designer, announced today that it has been selected by NASA to provide core CPU for its next generation of high-performance aerospace computing (HPSC) processors.

Dylan Patel, an analyst at semiconductor industry analyst SemiAnalysis, said Apple is shifting its core instruction set of embedded chips from ARM to RISC-V, and Google will also apply some of the designs from the SiFive X280 core to TPU.

"Arm executives: we respect RISC-V, but it's not a competitor."
