CTOnews.com, Dec. 13 (Reuters)-Microsoft is seeking to address EU antitrust concerns about its business practices caused by a complaint from Slack, Salesforce's workspace messaging app, according to Reuters. The move is likely to prevent the EU from launching a formal antitrust investigation, highlighting once again Microsoft's recent tendency to resolve problems with regulators rather than argue with them, as it did in the previous decade.

Last year, Microsoft found itself being targeted again by the European Commission after Slack accused Microsoft of unfairly integrating its workplace chat and video app Teams into its Office products. Microsoft launched Teams in 2017 to capture a piece of the fast-growing and lucrative workplace collaboration market.

Microsoft has put forward preliminary concessions in an attempt to allay the concerns of the European Union, one of the people said.

CTOnews.com, which has learned that Microsoft has been fined 2.2 billion euros (16.126 billion yuan) by the European Union over the past decade for cases involving so-called tying and other practices, declined to comment.

Microsoft has previously said that it created Teams to combine collaboration with the ability to connect through video, and that it gained popularity during the outbreak, while Slack was affected by its lack of video conferencing.

Other people familiar with the matter told Reuters last month that the EU's antitrust watchdog sent a second batch of questionnaires to competitors in October asking for more details about Microsoft's interoperability and bundling practices, suggesting it may be preparing for a formal investigation.

Microsoft is also the target of several antitrust complaints related to cloud computing, as well as complaints about bundling OneDrive with Windows.
