CTOnews.com, December 12 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- the Strategy Analytics research report predicts that global smartphone sales will fall 5% year-on-year in 2023 on a neutral basis. Under the influence of various factors this year, consumer demand for new smartphone devices has further weakened.

Compared with the June 2022 version, SA raised its smartphone sales forecast for Hongmeng's HarmonyOS operating system in 2023. The Chinese manufacturer has successfully stabilized its global performance with its 4G portfolio and its performance in the domestic market has exceeded expectations. Huawei Hongmeng's global share of HarmonyOS phones will reach 2 per cent in 2022, according to the report.

At the same time, the report lowered its sales forecast for Apple's iOS system, mainly due to sharp fluctuations in the manufacturing supply chain of Apple products. The share of iOS phones will be 18% in 2022. This share will be 17 per cent in 2027.

CTOnews.com learned that the report also lowered Android sales forecasts because Android was most affected by adverse market conditions. In addition to weak demand, major Android vendors face excess inventory and strong resistance from overseas markets in the face of geopolitical tensions and globalisation. The share of Android phones will be 80% in 2022. This share will be 83% in 2027.

Still, during the report's forecast period, Android will remain the largest smartphone operating system in the global market, with about 80% of sales. Apple's iOS will grow steadily, benefiting from Huawei's decline at the top end of the market and the penetration of traditional and new SE devices into the low-price segment.

The SA report said that while the initial performance of Hongmeng's HarmonyOS operating system exceeded its expectations, it remained cautious about its future given Huawei's bleak future in smartphones and assuming that the government did not impose interference with local manufacturers' decisions on the operating system.
