When we need to observe the trend of the data, such as annual sales changes, the line chart will provide us with a good presentation interface.

However, when there is only one series of data, the line chart always appears to be a little single.

As in the picture above, you will find that the upper and lower part of the broken line is a large blank, which is particularly empty.

So, how to solve this problem?

Let's take a look at the following picture for inspiration:

Through observation, we found that the line chart in the chart is filled with color, so it plays a strong supporting role and looks less monotonous.

So how to make this kind of chart? Is it difficult?

In fact, it is very simple, it is a combination of line chart and area chart!

Next, follow in my footsteps and start the journey of making pictures.

❶ first selects the drawing data and inserts the "line chart with data tags".

Then add a "data label", as shown below:

❷ selects the horizontal (category) axis and sets the ordinate axis on the right side of the chart, with the axis on the tick line.

Select the Abscissa, right-[format Axis], and follow the steps marked in the figure:

❸ hides the maximum (400000) and minimum (0) values of the axis by customizing the format code.

Format code:

[= 0] "; [= 400000]"; #, # # 0

PS: the numbers in the code can be modified according to the actual values.

❹ then copies the data from column C, presses the [Ctrl+V] key to paste into the chart, and changes the new series to an area chart.

The demonstration picture is as follows:

❺ adjusts the transparency of the area chart fill color to 80% (can be manually adjusted as appropriate), as shown below:

❻ finally insert the text box, add the main title, comments, data sources and other information.

Summary:

By using the combination of line chart and area chart, ❶ can better promote the expression of data information and achieve the effect that can not be achieved by single chart.

In addition to ❷, we can also see the difference between the two sets of data intuitively by filling the intersection of two line charts with color.

❸ uses the area map to divide the data of the line chart into intervals, so that you can directly see which data area a data belongs to.
