Although the downloads of the two categories are gradually returning to normal levels in 2022, the core users acquired during the epidemic still contribute a huge amount of internal purchase revenue to the game.

Affected by COVID-19 's epidemic, the number of downloads of chess and card games worldwide increased significantly and reached a new high of 840 million in 2020. Among them, downloads in Southeast Asia and Latin America increased most obviously, with growth rates of 224% and 131%, respectively. Sensor Tower data show that the number of downloads of chess and card games worldwide has exceeded 600 million for three consecutive years, much higher than the pre-epidemic level.

CTOnews.com learned that between January and October 2022, global chess and card games received 610 million downloads, with 79.7% and 20.3% of downloads from Google Play and iOS channels, respectively.

Global spending on chess and card mobile games rose well during the COVID-19 epidemic and exceeded $8 billion in 2021. The US market is the main source of revenue from chess and card games, accounting for 56.8%, followed by China and Australia.

Between January and October 2022, total revenue from global chess and card games was $6.6 billion. Apple channel users account for 57.9% of the expenditure, slightly higher than Google Play channel.

The expenditure of Slots mobile game users outperforms others.

Since 2020, the overall downloads of chess and card games have increased significantly, of which the monthly downloads of Poker / Solitaire and Slots subcategories remain at 20 million in 2022. The only other sub-category games on the list are "Coin Master" and "Bingo Blitz", both of which are stable in the top three places of income. Although the impact of COVID-19 's epidemic on the mobile market is receding, global spending on desktop mobile games has not decreased but increased to 1.71 billion US dollars in 2021, a year-on-year increase that is also higher than when the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in 2020. This shows the lasting attraction of board games, especially chessboard, card / mahjong products to core users.

Between January and October 2022, total revenue from global desktop mobile games was $1.48 billion, with the Chinese, Japanese and US markets accounting for 59 per cent of global revenue. Apple and Google Play users spend 59.4% and 40.6%, respectively.

With the exception of painting and coloring games, the income of other categories of table games continues to rise.

At the beginning of 2020, the board game market represented by Ludo games ushered in an unprecedented rapid growth, reaching a peak of 160 million in April, 2.8 times the total number of downloads in February. India contributed 48.1% of the market share in the same year, making it the largest market for board mobile games.

From January to October in 2022, board games remained the most downloaded sub-category of board games, followed by painting-coloring games.

Global desktop game revenue has been growing steadily since 2017, a trend that was further stimulated by the COVID-19 epidemic. Of these, revenue from card / mahjong, board and card games grew significantly, with revenues of $770 million, $590 million and $260 million respectively in 2021, up 135 per cent, 102 per cent and 212 per cent over 2019.

The top two downloads of the global board games are respectively occupied by "Ludo King" and "Carrom Pool" for a long time. Both games originate from Indian board games and are very popular in the local market, among which "Ludo King" has achieved more than 100 million downloads in 2022. In addition to "Ludo King", there are two other Ludo games among the top 10 downloads of board games in 2022, namely "Yalla Ludo" and "Ludo". Mattel163 "UNO!" is the most outstanding market in Europe and the United States, which rose 2 places to No. 3 in 2022.

The top 10 downloads of China's overseas desktop mobile games achieved a total of 250 million downloads in the same period, of which Southeast Asia, Latin America and India had a total market share of 63.5%, while Europe and the United States had a market share of 21%. Mattel163's "UNO!" became the most downloaded board game in the first ten months of 2022 with 44 million downloads, followed by "Yalla Ludo". As can be seen from the list, coloring is still the category of board games with the highest number of downloads by Chinese publishers.
