CTOnews.com, December 12, KaOS Linux standalone and KDE-oriented distributions have been updated to version 2022.12, and the ISO brings some of the latest GNU / Linux technologies and open source software.

With the latest Linux 6.0series kernel support, KaOS Linux 2022.12 comes with the latest KDE Plasma 5.26.4 desktop environment, as well as the recently released KDE Gear 22.12 and KDE Frameworks 5.101 open source software suites, so users can enjoy the best Plasma desktop experience on top of the best hardware support.

CTOnews.com learned that the KDE project recently announced that KDE Plasma 5.27 will be the last update of its popular desktop environment 5.x series, as the team is already developing the KDE Plasma 6 series, which will be fully ported to the latest Qt 6 open source application framework. KaOS Linux is the release, and users can sneak into the upcoming series of KDE Plasma 6 desktop environments.

"We started preparing for Plasma 6. For adventurous users, the kde-next repository is used for the complete Qt6-based KDE stack. All frameworks are built on Qt6, and most Plasma, as well as some KDE applications are also ported to Qt6. Plasma 6 can be started, but not yet available (so the ISO does not include this project)," the developer said in the announcement.

The new ISO version of KaOS Linux also comes with new applications, the Ghostwriter dedicated tag editor and Kjournald graphical user interface for systemd logging, as well as the improved Calamares installer, which now provides better support for the ZFS file system.

KaOS Linux 2022.12 brings an updated toolchain, including GCC 12.2, GNU C Library 2.36 and GNU Binutils 2.39, as well as CLang / LLVM 15, GNU Bash 5.2, ICU 72.1, Boost 1.80.0, systemd 252.3, Python 3.10.9, Gawk 5.2, Shadow 4.13, Texlive 2022, and libffi 3.4.4 / Glib2 2.74.3 stacks.

Users can now download KaOS Linux 2022.12 from the official website. Existing KaOS Linux users only need to update their installation by running the sudo pacman-Syu command in the terminal emulator.
