CTOnews.com December 12 news, Micron Technology announced today that its LPDDR5X mobile memory has been officially installed in Xiaomi's latest flagship smartphone Xiaomi 13. The latter is one of the first smartphones in the world to adopt LPDDR5X, with a peak rate of 8.533 Gb per second.

Micron said the company's latest version of LPDDR5X, designed for high-end and flagship smartphones, had a peak speed of 33 per cent higher than the previous generation of LPDDR5. The speed of this full-blooded version of LPDDR5X is further improved compared with the 7.5 Gb per second achieved last fall.

In November last year, Meguiar sent samples and verified the mobile memory LPDDR5X based on the industry's first 1 α (1-alpha) process node. Prior to this, Meguiar also launched LPDDR5, LPDDR4X based on 1 α nodes, UFS 3.1 based on 176layer NAND and uMCP5 solutions.

CTOnews.com learned that Xu Chunli, vice president of the mobile phone department of Xiaomi Group, said that Meguiar LPDDR5X can effectively enhance the experience of using functions such as mobile computing photography and local AI translation. Xiaomi 13, which is the first to carry a blood-filled version of LPDDR5X, has a peak speed of 8.5 Gbps.

According to Micron, today's complex smartphone processors have multiple heterogeneous processing engines, and the improvement of LPDDR5X memory performance is becoming more and more important for transferring large amounts of data to these heterogeneous engines. As mobile workloads become more complex, advanced chip platforms require high data rates to ensure seamless multitasking across applications, and achieve functions such as artificial intelligence reasoning, augmented reality and virtual reality, immersive image display and high-resolution images such as night mode and portrait mode shooting.
