From the new power of pure electricity belief to the fundamental independent fuel factory, only a few years ago, it was ridiculed for "taking off its pants and farting." now it has become a common straw that goes both ways and ends in the same way.

Putting aside the ideal of seniority and the question of relying on Huawei, the two most powerful new forces this year, Nezha and Zero, have joined the extended-range luxury lunch. Geely has just launched the Xingyue L extended-range electric version, Changan sub-brand Deep Blue directly chose to extend the range, and the Great Wall set off a wave of "extended-range vsDHT plug-in" in the middle of the year.

If you take into account the scandal of Xiaopeng's R & D motivation not long ago (which was later denied by officials), apart from sitting on the influence of the power exchange system, large domestic companies with names, regardless of new forces or traditional autonomy, more or less have had something to do with Zengcheng (or the word "Zengcheng").

"extended range", "electric" although it is named "extended range electric version", in fact, this new version of Xingyue L is not equipped with pure extended range power like the ideal and the world, and its power system is still Geely's Raytheon Hi X DHT hybrid technology.

Geely had previously used the suffix "Hi P" to mean "PHEV based on Raytheon Hi X". When it comes to Xingyue L, it may be because the PHEV version uses the large battery configuration of the long-range 205km. In order to highlight the practical value of the extended-range mode of the large battery, and probably also to simplify understanding and memory, it is renamed "extended-range electric version".

Geely is not the only one tangling with the names of "intermingle" and "Zengcheng". A few months ago, Wei Brand CEO and Yu Chengdong quarreled about "who is more advanced between Zengcheng and DHT?" Earlier, in order to explain the second car from extended range to "multi-mode drive" (plug-in), Lantu also held a special presentation meeting.

Geely uses the name "extended range" as its name, the Great Wall dispute is not behind the extended range, and Lantu wants to explain to users why it is not necessary to add a journey, all because the public seems to believe that in terms of electrification, "extended range is better than interruption". After all, electrification has almost become a symbol of "advanced", and "interruption" is an old name that has failed for many years.

The cause of this cognitive bias can be traced back to the entanglement of "extended range mixing" or "extended range electric".

Pure series add-on driver, and all kinds of series-parallel DHT hybrid, the difference between the two has been talked about for two years. To put it simply, the most essential difference between the "true extended range" such as ideal, Deep Blue and Lantu FREE and the series-parallel DHT such as Raytheon Hi X and Lemon DHT is whether the internal combustion engine can directly drive the wheels-- that is, the so-called direct drive capability.

In the incremental power system, the internal combustion engine never participates in the direct drive of the wheel; in the series-parallel DHT hybrid, the series (extended range) and direct drive / parallel can be switched between series (extended range) and direct drive / parallel by means of clutch opening and closing. Of course, because the series-parallel DHT has direct drive capability, all kinds of mechanical transmission mechanisms may be added, while the addition program does not have and does not need mechanical gear.

The problem lies here: because the add-on always uses a motor to drive the wheels, it seems to be qualified to call itself an "electric car" or an "add-on electric car". No matter how DHT, how series-parallel, how to extend the range mode, all belong to "plug-in" and "mix" after all.

In today's Chinese Internet world, the name "extended range electric" is indeed more common than "extended range hybrid". So in the perception of ordinary consumers, extended range = "extended range electric" ≈ electric vehicle, and DHT plug = (after all) plug mixed = hybrid ≈ oil car.

Series add-program hybrid and series-parallel DHT hybrid, the technical difference is only with or without direct drive capability, but such an error has evolved into an identity gap between "electric vehicles" and "non-electric vehicles".

Extended range electric? Extended range mix? the boundary of "electric car" is actually muddled. Some people think that it should be determined by the "(on-board) energy source": as long as it is "possible" to burn oil (whether it is "necessary" or not), any new energy vehicle with internal combustion engine should not be called "electric vehicle"-then the addition program should be called "extended range hybrid".

Some people think that it should be determined by the "driving mode": as long as the direct driver of the wheel is and always is the motor, then it can be called an "electric car". Therefore, the add-on should be called "extended range electric", while the series-parallel DHT can be directly driven by the internal combustion engine, so it can only be called hybrid.

At present, from the perspective of the popularity of the word "add-on electric vehicle", and considering that Geely and the Great Wall have to use the power of "extended range" or resist the pressure of "extended range" from various angles, the second way of definition temporarily occupies the minds of most ordinary people.

But this does not stand up to deliberation, and the biggest bug is hidden in Zengcheng Grandmaster. Today, a large number of new cars in China belong to the PHEV with large batteries, but in fact, the HEV with small batteries does not exist, such as Nissan e-POWER, the spiritual mentor of the ideal year.

The Nissan e-POWER does not have an external charging function, and the single-digit kWh battery pack hardly supports pure electric driving, but as an add-on drive technology, its wheels are always driven by motors. If it is judged by "driving mode" rather than "energy source", then e-POWER is a well-deserved "electric vehicle".

It is somewhat funny that an HEV, which is powered entirely by gas and cannot be recharged externally, is called an "electric car" simply because its wheels are always driven by electric motors.

Imagine that if there is memory replacement magic, replacing all the "extended range electric" in the minds of 1.4 billion people with "series mixing", there will actually be a more complex series-parallel DHT plug but need to use the name of "extended range" and oral battle with the extended range camp: "who is more advanced"?

Insufficient and unnecessary traditional autonomy in addition to Changan Deep Blue taking the series extended range route, Geely, Great Wall and other series-parallel DHT hybrid camps, in fact, will also emphasize the "extended range" attribute of their large battery long-range PHEV. Wei Brand wants to "make it clear", while Geely's "extended version" means "if you don't understand, then join."

On the new power side, for new power brands such as Zero, Nezha, and even self-travelers, Zengcheng, as a kind of "electric car" as we all understand, is a choice to "sacrifice" with the smallest brand image in exchange for a much broader market space. especially in today's soaring lithium battery cost environment.

Even for new brands such as Lantu and Deep Blue, which rely on traditional big manufacturers, compared with other types of plug-in, Zengcheng is not only more "electric" and "newer" in image, but also more flexible in the relative position of the driver and the drive wheel. the new platform can better take care of the pure electric version. It is not only to increase the competitiveness of pure electric version, but also to make more preparations for the future.

For these brands, extended range is of course an ideal choice for "compatible with non-pure electricity users", but it is difficult to think of it as a guarantee of doubling sales.

On the positive side, so far, apart from the ideal, the second winner is hard to find. The question world largely benefits from Huawei's endorsement, and the core competitiveness is also car-machine ecology. Lantu FREE market performance can only be said to be fruitless, the earlier skyline basically faded out of the head area, not to mention the recent disbandment rumors of self-travelers.

On the other hand, the ideal self comes out of the crowd mockery and incomprehension of "taking off your pants and farting". Tit-for-tat, even if there are more than ideal models today, people always think of ideals when it comes to extended range. At first glance, it seems that the add-on program has been familiar with and recognized by the public, but in fact it may only be the ideal itself.

On the other hand, we've actually missed the biggest player in the PHEV market, BYD. From last year to this year, DM-i is unstoppable, with the help of BYD itself to easily cut off pure fuel cars, and the proportion of PHEV sales in the new energy market is close to 1 to 4, which is simply the rule of the country.

But how many ordinary consumers know that DM-i, as the simplest series-parallel DHT hybrid, is closer to the extended range than Geely Great Wall's similar hybrid technology. DM-i never said that he and Zengcheng are related, didn't he get a sales miracle not inferior to that of the ideal ONE at that time?

Therefore, whether it is the real series augmented program hybrid, or the series-parallel DHT hybrid with extended range property, in the name of "extended range", "extended range" is neither a necessary condition nor a sufficient condition for market myth.

Here, success is concrete success, and loss is concrete loss.
